WS-01:
Technology for Teaching Secondary School Mathematics
Date:
27th – 29th June 2005
EARLY BIRD FINAL CALL ON 13th June 2005
This 3-day workshop is suitable for secondary and college teachers who are interested to learn and explore technologies used for teaching and learning in the mathematics classroom. This workshop will focus on using MS Excel, Autograph, Geometer’s SketchPad® and Casio Graphics Calculators in mathematics education. Come explore innovative ideas and concepts with our course tutors while experience inquiry based learning enabled by these educational technologies. The course tutors will share with participants on integrating these technologies at the rich and intensive hands-on sessions. Two special teacher’s forums on ClassPad Manager and Interactive Whiteboard will be conducted, lead by Mun Chou, Fong.

Engaging Students with SketchPad and ClassPad 300

Course Tutors 2005
Anthony Harradine
is presently Director of the Noel Baker Centre for School Mathematics at Prince Alfred College, South Australia. He has been consistently involved with the delivery of Professional Development initiatives through the Mathematical Association of South Australia and the Noel Baker Centre.
Cecily Peters
was a former Mathematics teacher at SM Assunta, Petaling Jaya where her creative work with her students has been acknowledge by the Malaysian Toray Science Foundation and was awarded the Science Education Award four times.
Esther Ng
was formerly attached to the Educational Technology Division (ETD) of Singapore MOE where she was involved in the implementation of the Masterplan for IT in Education. This IT integration initiative by the ETD has become study model to many other countries adopting IT in education.
Mun Chou, Fong
is presently Director of QED Professional Development Institute and he has been involved in many implementation workshops on handheld technology for mathematics education and mobile data-logging technology for science instruction.

Full Board Package
The full board package includes a twin-share or single-stay room in RECSAM Residence Hostel with breakfasts and dinners. All rooms are air-conditioned with attached bathroom. The food is provided by a halal caterer and special diet meal can be arranged at no extra charge.

Payment
Full, advance payment of tuition and full board, if applicable, is required to process your registration. Cheque, bank draft, or postal order should be crossed and made payable to QED Education Scientific Sdn. Bhd. We welcome local order or purchase order from education institutions where such document is considered equivalent to an advance payment.
 
Substitution Policy
A registered delegate may be substituted by another person. A substitution authorisation slip is included in the Registration Confirmation Pack for your convenience.
 
LOCATION
RECSAM shares the vast expanse of the campus grounds with the Malaysian Teachers’ College and is situated at the east coast of Penang Island. This well facilitated campus is easily accessible as it is only 1.5 kilometer away from the Penang Bridge exit, and is 2.5km and 5km from the new Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal and the Penang International Airport respectively.

Getting There
By flight:
Reaching Penang by flight is easy as there are direct flights from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok. Check flight schedule and book your tickets online from these airlines websites. Once there you could take the airport taxi to reach RECSAM.

By bus:
 
All intercity bus lines now stop at the new Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal, which is about 2.5 kilometres from SEAMEO RECSAM campus. Once there you could then reach RECSAM by taxi.
By car:
 
If you decide to drive then using the Penang Bridge instead of the ferry service is the better way to arrive at RECSAM campus which is located about 1.5km from the bridge’s island exit.
 
Transportation And Parking
You should arrange for your own transportation to and from RECSAM. Details about public transportation from the new Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal and the Penang International Airport will be included in your Registration Confirmation Pack. We will also include information about reaching RECSAM by car. There are ample free parking spaces available.
